Cleaning CDs & DVDs - what do you use?

The fluff that has collected on my CD drives laser pickup seems to clean mine very welll...

I tried this when I accidently put a HUGE scratch in one of my DVDs. It was really deep and didn't play at all so I thought why not... Took a while to get it out but works again now

Using something abrasive like toothpaste or Silvo/Brasso is better tbh.

Microfiber cloths designed for glasses/monitor with a bit of breath if necessary. Good combo for a lot of things

All joking aside, which I know you lot find very difficult, my son has scratched his favourite DVD (Spirited Away) and is extremely upset. It's amazing as this is the one and only DVD he ever puts away back in its box. Does toothpaste really work or is there another alternative? It would really cheer him up as he saved for ages to buy the DVD in the first place.

a solution of white vinegar and water with a cotton cloth

the vinegar solution cuts through greasy finger marks etc and when wiped off does not smear.

I was being deadly serious.

Some repair kits actually sand down to reach the cuts, minimising their effects on playback.

So do I. I've got discs from 1988 which are still in mint condition. I recently had some building work done and the dust got into some pretty surprising places
