Cleaning CDs & DVDs - what do you use?

Using something abrasive like toothpaste or Silvo/Brasso is better tbh.

All joking aside, which I know you lot find very difficult, my son has scratched his favourite DVD (Spirited Away) and is extremely upset. It's amazing as this is the one and only DVD he ever puts away back in its box. Does toothpaste really work or is there another alternative? It would really cheer him up as he saved for ages to buy the DVD in the first place.

So do I. I've got discs from 1988 which are still in mint condition. I recently had some building work done and the dust got into some pretty surprising places :(
