Computer Upgrade to Ryzen 7

Hi Everyone,

I am about to upgrade my current set up to Ryzen for video editing. I just wondered if anyone would check my part list out to see if I made any bad choices or maybe put parts together that don't work well. I was kind of confused as to what ram and mobo to get so I kind of just picked a random one that sounded good.

I already have a GTX 970 and a good power supply so they are not on the list.

CPU (Comes with a fan):

Grab the 8 Pack branded RAM rather than the Kingston.

Of more importance is the speed I'd say - I'd be aiming for at least 3000mhz. I know the 8pack stuff is quicker than 2400mhz but the OP would be paying an unnecessary premium

Good point, I should have said the regular Team Group Vulcan that Orbitalwalsh has suggested.

I looked at the team group ram, the Mobo I linked seems to only support up to 2.666 MHz apparently

Ryzen really likes 3200 memory, should be aiming for this to get the most from the CPU.

I would have a search on here and in general for reviews of that board before purchasing, the ASUS ROG STRIX is not far off that price but again check the reviews and user feedback.

Would this ram work on the asrock Mobo?

Its weird the page says it only supports up to 2.666 MHz but their website says otherwise, its making me skeptical about buying faster ram in case it doesn't work for some reason

And is there any down side to getting the micro atx version as its around 30 quid cheaper

The Pro4 has a turbo M.2 slot and a slower M.2 slot. Stick the faster one in the turbo slot (if you happen to get 2 x M.2s by any chance).

But also, it's the faster drive that should be used as cache/scratch for your editing programs. The SM961 is a great choice for this. A regular SATA or SATA-speed M.2 like the Crucial MX300 would be fine for boot/programs drive. I'd go with 250GB boot and 250GB scratch disk.
