The 'any guesses' refers to an educated 'guess' at how much the advertisement would cost.

    Many thousands.

We took out a half page ad in an Accountancy magazine - £8k for a week

Totally depends on the publication and the location in the magazine, could be £3-400 for a full page for a less mainstream mag or £800-£1k for something more popular, up to £2k for an inside back cover or back cover.

Then if the Magazine has any exclusive deals with the people advertising you could be paying 4k a page. Obviously it can be cheaper as well depending on the time of year etc. You will pay more if it's a one off advert, many magazines only let you advertise if you agree to running for 6months+, although not always the case for more specialised publications.

Have you tried phoning a few publishers.

If you look at the first page of editorial in most mags their will be a number for the advertising person.

Call a few magazines pretending you're part of a company that wants to advertise. Request how much you'd be looking at....done.

Yeah, but actually ring them rather than (presumeably) firing off an email and then sitting tight for a reply.

I have placed adverts in 'Cycling monthly' magazine (55000 circulation).

For a full page full colour it's about £1200, negotiable down to about £1000.

most of them will deal - saying things like 'We'll review your product with 2 colour pages if you place 6 adverts'. It's all a bit rotten really -- place lots of payable adverts if you want previews/reviews etc/space on their 'gossip' page etc.. :( Although they didn't go as corrupt as saying 'place adverts for a GOOD review'

I dunno, if BMW sell just 4 cars NATIONALLY as result of the full page advert it was worth spending the money and has made them a load of profit..

Doesn't sound too unreasonable for a marketing guy to go for ...

Are you chief exec of a multi-national corporation that pulls in £285m profit each and every year?

Or a plumber, with a knackered van?
