I'm currently running:

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI Intel Z170
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz
Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro+ OC 8192MB
EVGA Supernova GS 550W '80 Plus Gold'
Loads of SSD storage

My rig is mostely used for gaming (at 1440p) and I occasionally do some video processing.

I am trying to run Microsoft Flight Simulator. From what I've seen so far, even running at 1080p and medium settings, my CPU is the immediate bottleneck.

I want to leave my GPU as is until the 3000 series comes out (i'm aware I may need to upgrade my PSU when I upgrade my GPU) but for now I have a budget of £600-£700 for a ryzen CPU, new motherboard and 32gb of RAM.

I'm split between the 3700x and 3800x, I think the extra grunt might be worth the price difference...

Any pointers apprciated.

I'm not not up to speed on the differences between the two but I don't like to skimp on chipsets as a general rule. Wifi (dual band) may be handy actually as I'm moving house soon and it may take a while to run cat5e.

That's interesting about 3700x vs 3800x, I saw the difference in TDP and just assumed it was significantly faster.
