Custom Login Banners/MOTD

Hey!

I have a Raspberry Pi with Debian on it and just found out how to make custom login banners so I thought I would share here.

If you have customised your own banners please share along with the code!

I usually set a pre authentication banner that includes just the hostname so that anyone SSHing to the box using the IP address rather than FQDN knows they're hitting the right box before logging in. Not that logging into the wrong box is necessarily a problem but we have MFA setup on all our boxes so it saves a bit of time if people are only logging into the right box.

I only have the one pi so it’s not like I can get the wrong one.
