I had a similar experience almost a year ago. The company, Vehicle Control Services of Sheffield (which is registered to the same address as Excel Parking) went away for a while but I now have a letter from Roxburghe debt collectors and a new one from solicitor Michael Sobell - who trades under the name of Graham White, for some reason.

Each letter is more hilarious than the last, full of bold writing and misleading or false claims.

If i were you, i'd be writing to the solicitors/debt collectors asking for evidence of the offence, if no proof is supplied within a 28 days, you will assume that they will stop chasing for the fine and any further communication from them on the matter will be considered harrassment.

It's not worth the effort. They only send out a few letters before they realise you aren't going to fall for it.

Maybe so but by writing a letter stating that any further contact will be considered as harrassment, if they do send anything you have grounds to take them to court. If they get a letter like that 99% of the time they will just back down. Parking tickets that are not issued by the council or its affiliates are not enforcable.

Personally I'm just ignoring them at the moment, I no longer live at the same address or own/keep the car in question in any case. Amusingly 'Graham White Solicitors' is based at almost exactly the same address as Roxburghe. Probably the same set of porta cabins...

The advice generally given on the consumer forums around is just to ignore them.

and the above is fantastic! I may send that to them...

Take it from me, don't worry about it. Been ignoring tickets the past 7 years, nothing ever comes of it. They sent threatening letters, I sent bitchy letters back, they get bored, sometimes come back, we exchange words again, they get bored and I never hear from them again. Without fail I always plead with them to take me to court, it never comes to that.

Reminds me of one more thing, totally unrelated to parking tickets, but indulge me. My LoLargument with L.A Fitness. The missus accidently cancelled my direct debit to them (shared account FTL!), almost right away they sent me a s****y letter threatening all sorts. Now if they only asked nicely...

Long story short, 6 months later (this was years ago now) and I was happily exchanging letters with their solicitors cracking up at their threats. I made a point of posting a hardcore gay porno pic with every letter I sent. They probably would've gone away sooner if I didn't actively wound them up but they did go away eventually. These days I just tell the firms to 'sue me or bugger off'. Goes for parking tickets too.

If I were you, I would ignore advice like this. It will only make them send you further letters after your appeal or questions will fail. The money will most likely be decreased if you pay within the next 7 days blah blah.

File it in the bin and ignore, there is plenty of advice on moneysaving expert, pistonheads and consumer action group.

Far too many internet lawyers on here giving out bad advice.

P.s. Nice one doggy :D

They sent me another letter yesterday with a photo of my car entering and leaving the car park. Can't see who's driving on the photos but can see the reg.

But, this only shows me entering and leaving at the same time. Doesn't show me parked... What's to say I didn't drive round in circles for an hour and 33 mins, 13 mins over the alloted time?

The fact that they are still demanding the registered keeper to pay up is still against the BPA regulations (despite them having the BPA stamp on both letters) and my name is still spelt incorrectly (but that's the DLVAs fault).

Either way I spent all my money on holiday as I've never been abroad before and probably won't be doing so again in a long while, so even if I was going to pay I'm screwed.

My Gf got one of these when i was driving her car (im insured) at merry hill dudley. I parked over the bay line in an empty carpark and got issues with a £35 fine for it. I was annoyed and started to look at ways out of it and thats when i found out they cant do anything, but my girlfriend is shy and would take my advice. We actually fell out over it as i said she didnt trust me and this and that but she kept saying she would get 'done' in court and get a bad credit history (all stated in the fine letter). She wouldnt understand that to get a bad credit history whe would have to refuse to pay the fine when the court sides with the carpark owners, which is extremly unlikley as stated for the reasons in the other post here.

She paid it and i just went out and bought myself a new digi camera, if she can waste money so can i lol.

Could i borrow your dog when we recieve the next one?

Similar to mine. Girlfriend was actually "scared" of the company and paid the £70.

There was a gigantic row about it, we didn't have the money to be chucking it away on non-fines.

They can't do anything. What will happen is that the letters will get increasingly threatening and your dog will become increasingly spoiled.

Actually ROFL at that comment. :D

I have always had a lot more trouble getting women to understand the scam than men.

Moorron & Tute, can I have your girlfriends' addresses I have a couple of invoices I would like to send out ;)

Actually this reminds me of people vs Getty Images.

Some people paid the fine (about £1,000 per image, reduced to £750 for quick payment). Quite a lot took professional advice ... and ignored it.

Basically, they relied on frightening people with higher "escalation", if you dont pay now it'll only get worse. But it didn;t .... in the end I don't think they sued anyone who didn't pay. They didn't sue anyone because there was a big chance they would fail in the courts, and if it failed then all their threats publicly amount to nothing. And they wouldn't be able to continue the scam. They relied on people being too frightened and paying up thousands of pounds. Not bad for a letter or two?

The worst thing people did was reply to them, either saying sorry or protesting innocence - they just piled on more pressure if they got a bite.
