excuse my ignorance with networks but at what speed will data transfer between 2 pc's on a home network via a hub or router. it would be a cat5e wired install.

out of interest how long roughly would it take to transfer a 1.4gb divx file from 1 pc to another.

Depend on network cards - you can run 10/100/1000 Mbps down Cat5e.
Most hubs will only do 10Mbps half-duplex (mostly as a product of their age), switch is capable of more.

    1.4GB * 1024 = 1433.6 MB * 8 = 11468.8 Mb. Divide by 10/100/1000, whichever and you've got a value in seconds.
