dead drive

Hi all,

My laptop hard drive seems to have failed. The OS stopped booting and I noticed a double click.

I assume that it's essentially done for but would like to recover the data. Unfortunately it is not showing up on my computer. I have opened it up and recorded what it is currently doing (in a loop), in the hope that it might reveal what the problem is.

Opening the drive will have seriously reduced the chances of recovering anything.

I hate to say it but like Bremen said opening it has seriously reduced any chance of getting data off it, they are produced in dust free rooms that are 100x cleaner than a operating theater for a reason.

Hmm oh dear. I didn't come across any such warnings, only talk of fixing stuck parts etc.

I think you've lost your data, but now you know what they look like inside when they're working. Now all its good for is fun. The magnet controlling the arm is really strong, and the platters slide along a desk really well...
