Do I need to upgrade? If so what should I do?

Hi there, so I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to pc components. I bought a pre built cyberpower pc back in 2016 (I think) and the only upgrade i made was my gpu and that is it. Below are my full pc specs. And im wondering what "needs" upgrading and what is perfectly fine for 1080p gaming. I prefer performance over looks as its only myself and my wife looking at it lol.

- Intel i7-6700k.
- CORSAIR Hydro Series H55 120 mm CPU Cooler.
- ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger Motherboard.
- corsair Vengeance LPX 2x 8gb (16gb) 3200 ram.
- Palit GeForce RTX 2060 GamingPro OC.
- Corsair RM1000x 80 plus gold certified psu.
- 250gb kingston sata-2 ssd.
- 1tb WD WDC sata hard drive.

Depends a bit on what you are doing - the i7 will hold up awhile yet but some games are starting to edge past the abilities of a 8 thread CPU - but there isn't really a good upgrade path to more cores on that platform without replacing half the system.

16GB RAM copes fine but you might find 32GB worthwhile depending on what you do - some faster RAM than 1600MHz will net you a small performance increase in games but not massive.

GPU upgrade would be the biggest difference but at 1080p something super high end is a bit wasted - the 3070 when available would give a fair jump there even at 1080p.

Storage might net noticeably faster game and application load times the motherboard has support for: "1 x M.2 Socket 3, , with M Key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices"

Nothing "needs" upgrading really unless you have specific requirements application or game wise.

iiif you havent got 1080p 144hz+ monitor or 1440p 144hz monitor then look into that ?

bigger SSD as above

that ram is 3200hz im guessing due to double data rate ... cant actually get ddr4 in 1600hz , lowest is 2133hz i believe

So you are totally right. I was confused by your reply and took a ram stick out. And it says 3200. I looked on bios and its set for 3200 but when I used a program to see my components it stated it was running at 1599MHz so unsure whats going on.

I have a 144hz 1080p monitor currently

So ill definitely get a ssd maybe m.2 as my motherboard has 1 slot

So an edit to the speed of my ram each 8gb stick is 3200 just and is set to 3200 in the bios up the program I used to see my components stated 1599MHz so assumed it was that speed.

I will definitely go with a m.2 ssd thank you for looking up that I have 1 available slot!

I also have a 6700K and am waiting to see what Zen 3 brings to the table next month. I have it paired with a 2070 Super and it’s working great at the moment. With the whole capacitor and stock issues of 3080 I’m likely to wait until early next year for stock levels to settle down now.

Oof I've still got one leg in the DDR3 days - I saw pre-built and 1600MHz and assumed they'd put the cheapest generic sticks in.

3200MHz will do the job fine then.
