does autodata read trouble codes

    i was wandering or would i need to get some more software?
    i know that it gives you the meaning of them but does it read them direct from the dlc?

    does anyone know of any free or cheap software that does that i can put on my laptop?

    Its not really as simple as software only, you need something between the laptop and car that can decipher OBD2 codes like an elm scan tool or VAG-com for VW/Audis.

    Something like this would do it on most cars http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_STN327.html that one does most cars unlike other cables that either do PWM or ISO only.
