Ok, another friend of mine is having problems with his laptop, its an acer lappy with a DVD±RW drive in it but it’s only working as a DRV-ROM drive, it’ll read normal CDs and DVDs but it wont register CD-R, CD+R DVD-R DVD-RW… ect. With or without data on them, only non copied disks (originals) will work. now he’s got some dodgy software on there that I’ve never herd of so I’m thinking it might be software based but this has me stumped, even a normal DVD player can read a finalised copied CD-R!

when you put a non original disk in the drive it just crashes

Any thoughts on what it might be?

Had exactly the same trouble with an Aopen DVDRW, sent it back & replacement worked perfectly OK. If it's new send it back.

You could try removing it then putting it back and reinstalling all drivers, just a thought.

Solouko, do you realise you've written your signature wrong and completely killed the cleverness of it?
