I'm amazed quite frankly:eek:

Cos he's not playing very well and he's a poor captain. He can cross the ball, he can shoot (when the ball isn't moving ;) ) and he can pass ok. But he can't tackle and he can't hold his own position.

I've not got Owen in either.

They both make it to the bench so I could use them if required.

he's a poor captain
Owen needs a kick up the bum

shocking!! we agree on two things

beckham is a crap captain and always has been, the only reason he was given the role of captain was because he scored a few specialist freekicks, he is no way the sort of character you need for a captain. id still put him in the team probably, but no way would i let him be captain, either Rio or Sol would take that job (*weep*, if only Big Tone were still playing :p).

and Owen, pah always has been over-ratted, had a good 98 world cup and scored some important goals, but whats he done since? OH YES HIM AND BECKHAM SAVED US VS THE SLOVAKS!!!1

we shouldnt even need saving from a team of their standard.

david prutton is the current under 21 right back if im not mistaken and when i have seen him play he has been great.

However I forgot about danny mills so he would be my right back instead anyway.

I also Agree with Gilly that Fowler should play if we carry on just picking the best players with little thought for the future.

I think Smith deserved to be sent off, both were yellow card incidents, what else can you do?

Smith did play well I thought, but to have so little respect in playing for your country to act like such a stupid prat (second offence) on your first full match is criminal.

Actually there are quite a few of us who think he should have been off....just not for a 2nd yellow but a straight red for his first tackle which was a disgrace. Tbh the 2nd challenge was stupid anyway which shows his lack of foresight/temperament even if it wasn't worthy of a yellow. He would not be in my starting lineup for that reason alone.

The first one he did was pretty bad, but certainly deserved no more than a yellow! There's no way that deserved a straight red.

And the second one he didn't even make the challenge if you look, he slid in and the guy stepped over and fell on top of him, and then rolled out of shot.

So :p

Agreed, I think he was lucky not to get a straight red for his first offence. I think Smith has grown up a lot over the last 12 months, but he obviously has some way to go yet.

As for Beckham, how you can't have him in the team is beyond me. Agreed, his all round game isn't perfect, but I can't think of anyone else in the team at the moment, or in the near future, whose commitment matches his.

I would cast a vote for Jermaine Pennant to break into the team (or at least the squad) within the next 12-18 months. The guy is quality, and is only kept out of the Arsenal team by Ljunberg/Pires/Wiltord.

Finally, I'll get me flame-proofs on for this, but the same goes for a certain Francis Jeffers. He's scoring bagfuls at the moment for Arsenal reserves and England U-21's. The guy is still only young, but I believe he has a great future given time. Like Pennant, he is being kept out by established world-class starts (Henry, Bergkamp). His time will come.

And yes, I am a Gooner:p

aye KoR, jeffers has scored 5 goals this week for England U21's :) hes on fire for them certainly, and Pennant is outstanding too, some of the tricks he pulls are of absolutely incredible, it wont be too long before we see him in the squad hopefully

Jeffers is one I am unsure about, but only because of what I have seen not what I have heard :D When I have watched him he has been average at his job in general & then awful at scoring, fluffing the most simple of goal op's. Then I hear or read something about him being great & off scoring hatricks :D

In the not too distant future, say 1-2 years assuming he gets all fit again, I would like to see king in or challenging strongly for a place in the squad as well.

The fact that you have a Neville, Brown and Butt in your England side not only shows your bias but also it shows that you're lacking. Neville is nowhere near the player Mills is, and Brown is way down the pecking order behind Woody, Campbell, Southgate, Ehiougu, Richards, etc.

Smithy has always been a good enough player, but his temperament has let him down in the past. He's since been sorting himself out and he certainly didn't deserve to get sent off.

lol gilly calling someone bias? :D and you cant admit smith shouldnt have been sent off?? the ball was out of play, and smith still made the challenge - there was no need for it.

my team despite my slight bias has infitately more chance of coming off than your hugely biased weak side

I think that if we are going to do a team for here and now as everybody appears to be doing I may well rethink my squad so here goes (based on everyone being fit)

Robinson

Mills Campbell Ferdinand Bridge

Beckham Butt Scholes A. Cole

Smith Fowler

subs

J.Cole
Dunn
Woodgate
Southgate
Neville
Brown
Owen
James

James (to be replaced by Robinson for WC2006 qualification unless James establishes himself)

Mills (temped to put SWP ;) )
Campbell
Ferdinand
Woodgate
Bridge

Beckham
Gerrard
Bowyer

Owen
Smith

If Scholes ever makes it back to the player he used to be, then he could come in for Gerrard when he's injured (!) or more likely Bowyer. Owen is in bad form atm but he will pop up with a goal more games than not.

But 5-3-2 seems unlikely to happen atm so don't know why i even posted tbh :)

hmmm well thinking long and hard about this - i recommend a 3-5-2 formation with wingbacks, seems it would solve our problems with left sided players although i wouldnt mind seeing Ash Cole and Bridge together on the wings again......

anywayz 3-5-2

GK Robinson

CB - Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Campbell
LWB - Ashley Cole
RWB - David Beckham (dont laugh cos he played here in his earlier england career and it is a position which suits his game - endless running, crossin the ball)

CM - Joe Cole, Gerrard, Pennant (u may think he is a winger but he has played central for arsenal youth team - sadly he wont get a chance in the near future cos arsenal's midfield is doing to well and he wont get many games while hes there im afraid, so probably Dyer for now

FWDS - DONT PICK OWEN - HE'S USELESS AND I HAVE THOUGHT SO SINCE HIS INJURY PROBLEMS STARTED!!!!! :)

up front id probably have Defoe and Smith - dont go saying Smith's attitude is wrong - he was unlucky to be sent off cos the second yellow was a nothin tackle and there is nothin wrong with having some aggression in ur team
