I have to say the Cossie is an epic piece of kit, and they are incredibly quick in the right hands with a grand or 2 thrown at them, I just never found them as cool as the LC or things like the Audi S2

Escort Cossies are beautiful. While i also agree that the Sierra Cossies are better though.

The 'HINKS' one is worth between £25 - £30K IIRC.

I remember these very fondly.

My dad was going to get a new car and would only tell me he was getting a ford, i knew he was going to bring home an escort cosworth in that glorious blue colour.

What did he come home in...a Mk2 Fiesta XR2...the totally wrong bloody car :mad:

In all fairness the Escort cossie does look sexy as hell in an over the top, in your face, ostentatious kind of way.

These cars are Icon cars so their performance is secondary to the actual joy of ownership. Old school Porsche 911s will be blown into the weeds by a 10 year old Jap rally rep worth a tenth of the price, doesn't make the 911 any less desirable.

Never driven any Cosworth but I'd like too. I tried to convince myself I like the Sierras when I had the cash to buy another Impreza but I couldn't do it.

Esc Cossies were limited in build and highly sort after yet they didn't really do anything the sierras didn't - same with Imprezas, A P1 doesn't really do anything a normal STI (from V3 onwards and even then it would struggle against a decent V3 STI) yet it commands twice the price. Same with Lancia Integrale, same with just about any marque that brings out a special edition that is loved by enthusiasts. Its an enthusiast tax.

Had all three (Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth and now a Scorpio Cosworth).

Preffered it to my Focus RS (which I sold in a month) but not quite the same raw feeling as the Sierra (jelly mould) Cos. For shear prescence on the road you can't beat an Esc Cos but you'll be terrified of leaving it anywhere. Mine was dead reliable for the two years/14k miles I owned it but older ones can be problematic. Glad it is a car I've ticked off my dream list. I now personally think they are overpriced compared to similar machinery - e.g. Evos - if it wasn't for the Cosworth badge then an Esc Cos should be around £7k. It is easy to get silly power out of them though.

I want an RS500 next :)

Not something that really appeals to me im afraid :/

I respect the car for its reputation, and what an utter Icon it was back in the day. But i dont think its aged well. But then, it was never going to was it, it was an early 90s ford hatchback ...

Would be a difficult toss up between one and a Lancia Delta Evo2 though :D ... if ever I have £20k to throw away.

My mate used to have one of them a special factory edition in custom graphics, you may have seen it on traffic cops getting pulled over at lakeside then passenger got clocked with weed :rolleyes:

I do like a cossie but i cant see why there so expensive, you end up paying the cost they are now for the amount of times you have to replace the head gasket.

more like a nissan pulsar GTiR. they are still worth a premium over the nissan sunny... but dont command cosworth type prices - yet arent really any more special...?!

except to english ppl who love ford chav toys?

Cars like the ones you've mentioned have a value that transcends raw 0-60 times. They still turn heads.

I think you have to remember that at the time owning anything like that early 90's it WAS going to get nicked. Insuring it would have been near impossible. It was simply out of the reach of anyone unless you could afford a Porsche or something, and if you could afford a Porsche why would you buy a freekin Ford. Looking back I think that anyone who bought one needed their head examining.

I've always had a huge soft spot for Escort Cossies, I would have one in my perfect 10-car garage, I don't feel theres a need to explain why they are so iconic, they just are just do your history :D
