Basically, I have a situation where the Exchange box only handles certain accounts for a domain, so for example it handles [email protected] & [email protected] but doesn't handle [email protected].

The problem is that, if tom tries emailing harry, it fails as the server thinks it's responsible for all email at domain.com but there's no mailbox for harry.

Is there any way I can tell it to forward email for specific users at domain.com (or indeed unknown users) to the ISPs smarthost instead?

Hey, i'm pretty sure this is what you are trying to do:

Basically you need to make the Exchange server no-authorative of the domain so that it will forward on the emails to the other server. I havn't done this in practice but the article seems to make sense.

Yep that did the trick. Actually, since the email domain in question wasn't my primary/default, it was simply a case of tell the server it was not authoritative for that domain :)
