Failed login attempts to router from one PC

One of my housemate's laptops keeps trying (but failing) to login to our router (DG834PN) every twenty minutes or so, but he himself isn't doing anything. Since this started, our internet connection has been quite temperamental, but that could just be a coincidence.

What's this likely to be? A virus on his computer? He's ran virus scans but nothing comes up. Any ideas?

Get the latest drivers for his network adaptor. Check to see if there is any new firmware for the router.

If the connection is playing up for others try changing the wireless channel.

Have you tried turning his laptop off for an hour or so and seeing if your internet connection settles down? This would be the first step I would take if you haven't had any positive virus scan results.

Also, actually check to see if he has run a virus scan, I know plenty of people that have given the "yeah yeah yeah I've done that..." answer when they actually do turn out to have a virus
