I assume that they had a mortgage. So did they sell the house to the council/police/whoever so they could knock it down or what?

I just don't understand how they got authority to knock down a privately owned building.

And yes I get Why they knocked it down. I'm just interested in how it happened within the law

The house was compulsory purchased by Gloucester City Council in 1996 and razed to the ground.
The contents and the remains of the building were then ground down to dust at the former RAF Quedgeley site to prevent them falling into the hands of macabre souvenir hunters.

I think relatives might have got something from a sale. Its a bit iffy as West no doubt stole from victims and surely their families should get the cash if anyone, even worse was Harold Shipman receiving a full pension after killing over 100 patients, it wasnt him who got it but his ex wife since he was dead. All assets can be seized in some cases usually drug or gang related operations. Ask these questions on Quora as someone qualified is more likely to draw up a proper answer, or already has done so.
