While that is true you also have to consider the extra performance gain from a newer CPU which will Be equivalent in going from zen to zen 3 today and then there is the money I'll get back from selling my current CPU/ram/MB so the net spend won't be that much more.

I'm waiting to see the prices of new kit, especially mobos, before making a conclusion. I can see mid-range mobos pushing > £300 (for comparison, my x570 Tomahawk was £170... just wish I had a CPU to put in it :( )

There will always be cheap boards especially if companies like Intel and AMD want to maximise CPU sales. Also the board quality will increase over time with more features for less money like when comparing the build quality and feature set of a high end X370 for £200+ to that of a newer £150 B550 etc.

DDR5 is "just around the corner"... "board quality will increase over time with more features for less money"... so not just around the corner?

Didn't want to create a new thread for this since G. Skill launches are basically MIA unless you are in the US but here we are.

The 4266 C16 bin is pretty interesting if you are going to downclock it but other than that don't see much here for Zen.

Available in May 2021.... so basically September 2021.
Its still slower than the 3800Mhz C14 bin, I just wonder if they are any diffrent inside besides how they look.

I bought the F4-4000C17D-32GTZRB kit. Manufactured the end of last year. DRAM calc shows a 96% chip quality with 4266 OC potential.

Link

I'd take a guess at anything over 4000 coming from the same bin, including this C14 3800 Trident Z 2X16GB kit:

From the testing I have done, the kit I have will match all other kits with the same voltage or less.

Around 3800 is definitely the sweet spot - here's one at 3866 c14 with 1.45v.

Needs a bit more tweaking but happy enough for now :)

Noob Question here. Wanting to Change to Trident Z Neo Ram (32Gb (4x8GB)) It will be paired with a stock 5800x.. no overclock at the minute. Used for Gaming only.

the price difference for CL18>Cl16 is about £50... is this worth it if ive no real desire to overclock a lot. ?

I’d go for one of the Neo 2x16GB kits if you can find one at a decent price vs 4x8GB. 3600-3800 with the best timings you can afford.

I'm looking to buy F4-3600C16D-32GTZR to go with a 5900x on a msi tomahawk board. Is there any difference between the neo and non neo or just the colour? Will this kit plug straight in no issues and just work? Im not planning on overclocking.

Thanks.

You will have no problem with this config. In fact it's on the QVL for Tomahawk and I saw many people with this kit and Tomahawk. Just make sure you are in slot 2 and 4.

I think years and years ago there was probably a difference in pcb layout (A0) between GTZR and GTZN but I think all G. Skill bins (and any other good manufacturer for that matter) are all A2 or the equivalent dual rank layout. It doesn't make sense to increase your manufacturing costs by stopping and changing pcb layouts.

G. Skill really released this under the radar. Can't even find a press release about it.

Probably the best bin for downclocking or if you somehow get lucky to run 2000 FCLK.

Do these kits generally have secondaries unoptimised or does the DOCP profile also optimise the secondaries?
XMP or what ever its called likely includes only primary timings.
Even if DIMM maker wanted to optimize secondaries SPD table doesn't include fields/space for all latencies.

Anyone own the F4-3800C14D-16GTZN kit? It a beast? I've just upgraded to a 5950x and now 1900FCLK is stable on the CPU, but I'm having a nightmare with my Micron E-die making the step up from 3733 to 3800. CMW32GX4M2Z3600C18. It's not the best E-die to start with, though it has tightened up very nice at 3733 to 16-19-16-36.

I can probably make 3800 work eventually, but the funny thing is while my current settings boot at 3800 but are unstable, if I loosen the timings the PC doesn't post

Budget right now probably couldn't extend to 32GB of that G.Skill, so it would also be a temp downgrade to 16GB (though I would grab another 16G B eventually). Trying to nab 32GB of B-die I guess.
