Gaming PC around £750 (Include Windows, not including monitor keyboard etc)

Hi Guys,

Im looking for advice regarding a budget gaming PC for around £750, which will need Windows but no other peripherals like keyboard or mouse.

I don't mind building one myself or getting one pre-built.

I have a rough idea of what I want in terms of specs and parts, but below I have listed 2 pre-built PC of similar price range and I was hoping someone can give me some clear indications.

Core i3 8100 + GTX 1060 3GB

The above two builds are kind of what I am looking for. From reviews I have read, the new Coffee Lake i3 8100 seems to be a competent budget CPU and perform well for single-threaded tasks like gaming. However in virtually every CPU comparison I had read, the Ryzen 5 1600x seems far superior. I understand the 1600x really should be competing with the i5 8600k, but due to the motherboard cost difference, these two PC actually cost similar.

So my question is, with the same graphic card (GTX 1060 3 GB), is the i3 8100 a better performing CPU than the Ryzen 5 1600x? If not, does the Z370 motherboard's headroom for upgrade in the future makes up for it? Or should I go with the Ryzen 1600x?

Or if you have any other build suggestions I would really appreciated.

there are methods to getting key for £20+ but you'll need to google that

or for prebuilt from a much better company and better GPU

haha, can be a lengthy chat and debate on that one - intel 8100 and 8400 are crakcing chips if you want plug and play - ryzen with good ram and slight overclock is a cracking chip and will last a good long time .
I did a bench between intel 8400 and ryzen 1600 with intel coming out on top just - Ryzen 1600 should have the edge over the i3 8100 though .

hopefully others can swing you to one side of the other... ryzen you've got the option to drop in 2 future gens in that board- intel wise you can drop a second hand i7 8700k in a 2/3 years and will give you another 2/3 year life span .

as for ryzen, grab the 1600 - X is good if you want to water cool or add a beefy cooler as it doesn't come with one and should overclock with less voltage

We can't recommend other sites as this forum is paid and maintained by OcUK - so against forum rules. OcUK are pretty competitive - and if you were to buy your build/assembly from here the customer service is excellent.

OcUK do custom builds for a price - do a post in the Pre-Sales Forum and give them a list (link them to thread) and they will advise you how much assembly will cost.

This is a build includes Windows 10 (pricey) - but if OcUK were to build the system you may get a better deal on 10 as they would use a system licence (i'm assuming) and should be cheaper - enquire:

I've opted for Micro build and subbed the SSD for a conventional drive to keep within budget - but you could easily add one later. I've also had to drop the from a 1060 to a 1050Ti as the motherboard isn't optional (couldn't resist @orbitalwalsh :D) - but this does a decent job at 1080p gaming. If you wanted a midi tower build - post back.

You would still need to factor in the price of build cost - and if this takes it too far over budget you could tweak the build again with a different PSU and lesser CPU.
