Let's go totalitarian style and ban those who aren't astute enough to contribute in a useful way to the forum. Make IQ testing mandatory on joining. Anyone who fails may be pointed in the direction of The Student Room.

If I thought that thread served no purpose it wouldn't be there anymore. It's a fun bit of banter which is what GD should be all about.

There is no fun banter in GD anymore. It's either one extreme - aggressive nasty posting, to the other - pure drivel.

Turn GD into a funny forum section..

Each thread would be a poll and if it was under a certain funny limit.. which i dub the funno'limito, pronounced "fun-oh-limb-eat-oh".. then that user is suspended.. job done..

I didn't say that, I said this:

It's a good idea, but what happens when it's re-opened? A few days of sensible threads and back to how it is now? Sounds like a band-aid fix to me.

Removing GD entirely would higher the standards of the forum, if that's what you're after, but the userbase would suffer.

GD is generally seen as the "Misc" Forum, It helps keep spam and rubbish out of other topic areas

I think the problem with that thread is, whilst it's a good and interesting discussion, the way it was started leaves a lot to be desired. I mean, hinting towards what you're thinking about and then leaving it to everyone else to guess the specifics is pretty silly

Like I've already said 75658 times, it was a short, indescript OP to see how many people grasped it with the small amount of information. Plenty of people did, and thread was successful.

How about a voting system for each thread (along the lines of the star system except with plus and minus) and if it goes too far into the 'red' the thread is given the boot.
