Can I just ask the gin drinkers in here, if you see Greenall's will you give it a try? They've had such a hard time since their distillery burned down a few years ago, though they relocated and took their (thankfully unharmed) stills with them, they could do with the exposure. They just released a new gin called Bloom which has received critical acclaim, give it a try if you see it. Greenall's and Bloom is distilled in the UK and they could do with the support.

Anyone ever tried Genevar? (dutch gin iirc)
Had some neat at the campsite bar in the middle of amsterdam many years ago. The guy who ran the place said all the locals drink it and it's available from the shop round the corner hehe ...unfortunately I was skint by the time I had to leave so never got some.
Not ever seen it for sale in the UK, except on specialist web-sites, and there's lots of different 'blends' too apparently.

Genever gin is a dutch style of gin, it is sweet gin, not a particular brand like gordons etc

Some on here

Bombay Sapphire or Hendricks for aromatic gins. Not a fan of 'punchy' gins like Gordons. Saying that though (for my palatte) it either has to be the best or the worst €3 stuff you get at the duty free and nothing inbetween.

Interested to know what the Gordons sloe Gin is like though

Pretty much this. Although Plymouth is a nice one to add. :)

Bombay Sapphire :)

On a night out in a club ask for a G & T, go under a uv light and the amount of attentin you get with people asking what you are drinking is insane. (it glows blue)

Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire or Hendricks gin are all good. Blackwoods is a rather tasty alternative although a bit unusual choice, you should be able to get it in supermarkets, I've definitely seen it in Sainsburys and Tesco.

Has to be lime with gin and ice in the glass, lemon is an acceptable substitute but it's no more than that.

Gordon's is great. From memory, Bombay Sapphire is the more expensive of the two and has a fruitier flavour to it. But you can't go wrong with Gordon's.

I like gin but I can't stand G&T, I find extremely bitter. Plymouth is my choice because it's very subtle and smooth, their sloe gin is also divine but I don't think they've been producing much recently, last time I was at the distillery the guy there said they had a little problem getting sloes of good enough quality in enough quantity due to the crops in Poland not being very good.

Love to, but I'm having a devil of a time finding it. Anywhere you could recommend?

Does premium tonic water make a difference?
Yes, but not enough to warrant the premium price of Fever Tree.

Waitrose own-brand tonic is pretty decent for a supermarket brand. Better than Schweppes as far as I'm concerned and streets ahead of the other supermarkets.

But, annoyingly, Fever Tree is amazingly good. I'm just not prepared to pay 8 times the price of a bottle of the Waitrose stuff for everyday drinking.

Fentimans is also quite nice, but equally ridiculously priced.

I think it all hinges on the Gin you are using (as a few of us have posted previously) hmm, I never knew Plymouth Gin was a type of gin, I will have to try I think. Unless wiki is telling fibs again
