Fox, because of where you live your insurance position is quite unique. For example - insuring your car - 99 Ghia X hatch on me - a 32 year old, living in moderately quiet suburban area of Kent, driving for 14 years would cost minimum of £901.87 with excess of £150 for TPF&T. That minimum quote is inclusive of 5 years no claims bonus. For 0 NCB - Norwich Union quoted £1,445.00 with an excess of £520 FPF&T(!!!). I wouldn't even dream of insurance group 17.

Thats because Norwich union are rip off Merchants. :D

i live in a pretty bad crime rate area and a grp18 s14a (at 27 with 0 ncb) i was quoted £550 or so FC.
your quotes are a joke tbh, try more insurers :p

DONT DO IT!!

Increase your budget a little, and find yourself a 2.7 its a lot better.

Do you want a Tiptronic or are you happy with a Manual?

Go for Manual.

If you dont buy it, id like to know the details please because my dad might be interested in it.

Its got quite a few expensive extras on it (clear lights, carrera wheels, leather interior), so for that price its a good buy.

Can anyone give me a quick run down on manual vs. tiptronic - pros and cons etc . I dont really understand how tiptronic works . . . .

tiptronic - will have a fully auto mode (put it in drive and go) and a semi auto - this is where it will auto change down gears for you if you dont change down and will allow you some freedom to change up through the gears, giving you more access to that rev range when you want it.

i wouldnt have an issue owning that car in tiptronic :]

if your a control freak or want to do some racing or track days then get a manual.
if your after a nice car that has some power when you want it or will jsut be cruising in it then go for the tiptronic :]

I've had one of these to drive for a couple of months and it was fantastic. The gearbox is a dream. £15k isn't so far off the mark. I assume he has a little in that for negotiation. Take particular care checking over the hood but, if it is anything like you say then it could well be worth close to the 15 mark. I might have been tempted in this myself if I had seen it a couple of months ago ;)

They're still rated as being about the best rag top on the market. The 2.5 is not exactly a fire breathing version, but will still have the handling and build quality.
Looks damn good to me.

Just found out that the car has had 6 owners . . . . . . what do you guys think of the car now ?

I think a full HPI check and possibly a mechanical check would be in order if I was spending 15K from a private individual.

I live in Devon. Postcode PL. £901? Thats more than I pay at the moment with less NCB, 3 points, considerably younger and modifications declared, and thats comprehensive. A 540i SE, comp, is £1159.

Your quotes are more unique, do you not find nearly a grand for a 32 year old with near enough full NCB on a bog standard 2.0 Mondeo is verging on extortion? There are people in this forum insuring Imprezas for half that.

Quite common with soft tops really, people buy them for the sun then sell them when it goes away. Make sure the service history is spot on, services done on time and so on and definitely HPI it.

If there have been a succession of owners in a short space of time, it can be indicative of a major problem which they didn't want to sort out, so keep an eye out for that too.

I'd also want a local independent specialist to give it the once over. It'll cost maybe a couple of hundred, max, but if it saves you thousands it's money well spent.

Hmmm.....its not that expensive, but if things go wrong.....
2.5 is the "least" of the Boxster varieties - if you can stretch, the 2.7 is a far better option.
It MUST have a full service history at correct intervals, and the majority of them should have been carried out at OPD - as its now 7 years old, I would expect recent servicing and going forward you can go to recgnised Porsche specialists.
For it to be a minter, you need to see the history file - old mots, service receipts - maybe even phone up the past owners or servicing dealers to get a flavour on whats been done.
For a comparison try looking at some specialists such as

www.911virgin.com
www.cridfords.com
www.portiacraft.com

Although it looks clean and tidy from the photo, I would sincerely recommend a fine tooth comb and investing in an inspection at a specilist - if the cars got nothing to hide the owner shouldnt mind, and given the size of your investment and the potential costs if things go wrong (with no come back on a private sale) you shouldnt mind the cost.

They are not unique. They were much, much higher when I lived in E14 postcode. I was 25, had 1 litre pug 205 and £700+ TPO was the best they could do.
Insuring my Almera 2.2 dCI 136 ins. group 7 on FC policy costs me £620 pounds, 0 NCB. Insuring Toyota Hilux Surf 2.4TD - a japanese import 4x4 - on FC was less than £500. Nissan Largo, japanese import is now £370 TPF&T. Best quote for group 4 306 DTurbo is £821.00. See the pattern? It's not - the bigger or faster, or more expensive, or weirder car that's factor - it's the more popular car you are likely to have the higher your quote in South East.

Look at the pic below - quotes TPF&T for your Ghia X for 20 year old with 2 years of NCB in my area. I don't think any 20 year old would dream of driving 2 litre barge out here. Look at the AA quote.. oh my god...

Using confused to search insurers, i get about 2k to insure the fox mobile, as the main driver TPFT. Thats if i put down as having my license for 1 month and PP, so obviously 0 NCB, with my dad named (50, 14ncb).
If i phoned up im sure they would quote cheaper too.

PR1 post code, 2b area i think. (share with preston city centre 3 miles away  )
