Sorted.

After another fitting today my local pro - i500 has gone from the PING range - Nothing confirmed as replacement at this time. If I wanted I could wait and see as it's usually August/September time for Ping announcements - obviously the i59's are appearing in the pro's bags but they are unlikely to suit me anyway.

Hit the i210's and really liked them as well - brought spin down to a much more manageable level.

So sorted - New Irons ordered.

5 - UW Ping i210's - 3 degrees upright, standard lofts, DG120 stiff shafts.
Couple of Vokey wedges 54/58 degrees to gap the bag nicely (UW is 50)

Approx 3-4 weeks lead time.

Stick with driver/old 3 wood for now..... Excited!

Nice one @booyaka - waiting for the end of the season for a ping fitting for irons I think. My iBlades are a little worse for wear now and need replacing so possibly the i59.

Shoulder still bad but played 9 today, +3 until the 9th when I went 3 off of the tee and spannered the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th shot, ended up with a quad. My playing partners were stunned as was I - head just gave up totally off after the lost ball.

yeah - i59's look amazing - too good for me - still need a bit of forgiveness for sure!

3 layers, woolly hat and blowing about 15-20mph at times today.... May golf!!

Still -

haha - not sure where that back 9 came from - holed 3 15-18ft putts but still pretty happy with that.

That was my 20th scored round for handicap - currently 10.9 but I suspect a cut after that!

Played Goswick Links last weekend twice, absolutely lovely course and would recommend to anyone in that area to try if you are holidaying. Very windy the first day, aiming 30yds right of a green and ending up 20yds left of it! We were supposed to play a 3 & 4 ball, but went ou tin 2/2/3 to try to speed it up as the rain was forecast. I played in the second 2 and just managed to get in before the heavens opened. Lovely conditions for the 2nd day and the course was a lot easier. Managed to shoot my hanciap the first day but was suffering from the hangover golf on the 2nd day. We all played Dunstanburgh Castle on the way back home, the wind was nearly at the point of being unplayable, i hit my 8i 150yds, used it for the signature hole par 3 which was 96yds to the flag and ended up 5 yards short of the green.....

Shaft question: has anyone ever swapped a shaft configured for a Titleist driver (in this case a 915 D3) to fit a Taylormade head (a 2020 SIM)? I've got an absolute stunning Accra Tour X that I used in the 915 so therefore fitted with Titleist adaptor - and would like to see about fitting it to my off the shelf SIM driver head. Been playing golf a while, but never messed about with shafts other than through custom fitting - any ideas on how to achieve this?

Thanks for any advice.

Any good club pro should be able to remove the shaft hosel and fit the Taylormade equivalent. Alternatively if you love that shaft buy a new identical shaft with the right hosel adaptor.

Last Saturday I had a full bag fitting at Silvermere GC near Woking. Fascinating to see where I'm hitting my current irons and what difference it makes to hit a newer model with more forgiveness. Essentially I'm hitting low toe and my current Mizuno MP68 simply don't translate that impact to distance. Trying the JPX921 Forged and suddenly that impact point is less of an issue.

Biggest shock was seeing the difference is technology in hybrids; I have Titleist 816 and 915 hybrids. I hit one shot with a TSi2 hybrid and simply said "Can I have this now please?".

Saw a similar benefit in a fairway wood from my current 913 but very little benefit from trying a newer driver than my current 915.

Anyway, I obviously then spent a fortune on 9 new clubs

Silvermere is where I'm planning on going for my fitting, would you recommend it for the facilities and range of choice etc?

Going for a full bag bar putter I think, although that very much depends on what changes I see, distance is fine but want more consistency.

I did the full bag.

1) be very clear about what brands you are interested in. But think very carefully about that. I only tried Mizuno and Titleist products because that's all I have used for the last three decades but I kinda wished I'd tried some Srizon irons.

2) don't let the fitter tell you there's no point trying something you're interested in; you will always wonder otherwise.

3) check they have what you want to try before you go

4) don't place an order on the day. the prices they charge aren't bad but the quote is valid for a while so you have plenty of time to do some price comparisons first.

5) changing your swing is much harder than changing clubs. the fitting showed up a serious fault with my set up that I could potentially fix over time but new clubs will compensate immediately while I try to fix the fault and if I can't fix it I'm getting better results all that time.

Did you do Silvermere for a RH or LH fitting. I have seen they are home of a LH specialist site and I have always struggled to get a fitter being a LH player. It’s a long trek to get fitted but I think I’ll need it in the next 6 months. I’ve just started playing again after 8 years and I need to get fundamentals done first but will then check if my clubs are right for me anyway.

Any other LH players with suggestions? I’m a high handicapper who peaked at 21 about 15 years ago but barely played since and not at all in last 8 years until 3 weeks ago.

Anyone see the issues from yesterdays round!

+7 for two holes, +2 for the other 16....:cry:

Snap hooked tee shot on 4th and then provisional into the trees! Lost 2 balls on 17th but holed a 25ft putt for a 7....

Todays round - Wee run down to Girvan this morning - short course but good test of accurate golf. Only hit driver twice. 4 Par 3's over 200 yards is no gimmes

72 scratch (it's only par 64) so not too bad - Nice 3/3/2 finish (birdie ,par ,birdie). Just a bounce game nothing serious but can see small improvements in my game at the moment for sure.

Just watched the highlights from the US Open - go on Bland! Hope he has a decent weekend, would be phenomenal if he can pull this off.

Not to be, finished tied 50th in the end with 2 poor rounds to finish. I was pleased to see Rahm win after the calamity of the memorial tournament a few weeks ago though.
