Don't really mind it to be honest. Most of my searching is done through the Chrome address bar or the search bars in whatever browser I am using at that moment.

If you use the Stylish extension for Firefox, create a new rule for Google and add this:

#cpBackgroundImg { display: none; }

I'm still working on resetting the logo and removing the drop shadows.

I've set my own background image and it doesnt take any longer to load or anything so cant see the issue

Not a fan of this at all. Don't need or want a picture on my search page.

To be honest I'm not sure why people use a search page as a home page anyway. Pretty much any browser allows searches via the address bar or has a search box at the top so why not either go for a home page that aggregates info (like my.msn.com or igoogle), news or a fav site or just blank for speed?

I rarely bitch about google but jesus this is awful - if I wanted a background i'd use iGoogle, keep with the simplicity.

Google.co.uk website won't even load for me. I keep getting page cannot be displayed errors.

Yeah they've gone all Bing.

There's no 'remove' option though as it's really annoying, especially as it's slow when it does the fade-in thing.

The only thing you can do is set the background to white (under Editor's picks category)

or you know just wait until tomorrow when it goes back to normal
