Evening chaps,

As per the title my graphics card has packed in it was a Radeon 280x.

It was paired with a I5 4670k & 16gb RAM only playing at a res of 1080p.

I'm completely out the loop with graphics cards these days so after some recommendations.

Main games i play are Total War: Warhammer, PUBG, Rainbox 6 seige with a view to star citizen when that is eventually finished!

Any help greatly appreciated :)

How old is it? Out of interest.

Give a budget and then you'll get somewhere faster, but for 1080p then a gtx1070 will do you well for quite a few years yet.

Budget wise I would like to aim for around £400 but i can be fairly flexible if the extra performance is worth it.

That's easy, the 1070 then, but maybe wait 2 weeks to see if the 1070ti arrives and improves pricing/options for you

I would say the 1080 (£500), as 1070s might be slightly overpriced now and you are not really paying a disproportionate price for the extra performance when going from a 1070 to a 1080.

As Arby says might be a good idea to wait on the 1070ti.

Are you planning on upgrading your screen anytime soon? If so then have a think if you wanna go free sync or gsync route and buy a card that supports the one you might buy.

No plans on upgrading monitor anytime soon. I might look to the 1080 since it's only an extra £100 over the 1070 any brands to avoid?

If you're willing to stretch to the 1080, then I'd definitely keep stretching and go to the 1080ti. The jump from the 1070 to the 1080 isn't that massive, but the 1080 to the 1080ti is huge. That's personally why I'd either stick with your budget of £400 and get a 1070 (hopefully 1070ti in 2 weeks??), or really push it and get the 1080ti. Decent ones can often be had for under £700.

I'm very, very happy with my 1080 at 2560x1080. You don't really need any more for 1080p and won't for years to come either. The performance jump may be decent but the price jump is huge.

At 1080p it doesn't really matter whether you get 1070 or better. I'd say just read some reviews and get a quiet one. I also had 280x and when I got my Palit GameRock 1080 it was like having a brand new PC. Even at full load it's pretty much inaudible. Sensible me would say just get a 1060. My 2nd PC has 3GB 1060 in it and plays Witcher 3 at high settings at 1080p, that's with i3 4130 and 8gb RAM.
