A friend of mine had an external hard drive but was having some issues with it, long story short, she got a replacement, but couldn't back her data up because her hdd enclosure was damaged.
being a good friend, I put her drive into my pc in order to back up. during the back up process, an error message would pop up on screen saying that windows had detected a damaged drive and that it needs backing up. [I can't remember the exact message] as I was in the process of doing this I ignored the message... Now however, I have decided that I will keep the drive in my pc as an additional storage.
I have formatted the drive and checked for errors. both successful finding no errors. The message has not shown it's face again but I fear that I may have clicked some sort of 'don't show this message' dialogue.
is there anything anyone can suggest to test the drive for permanent damage?
Thanks
