K It's a bit more different to mine than I thought I'd make it originally. I changed the CPU/Mobo/RAM to an ocUK made overclocked bundle so you don't need to worry about those, seing as it's your first build.

Speakers are optional, I said two hard drives because then you can put them in Raid 0 and get better performance out of them without taking away storage space. SSD's are still too expensive and buggy for anyone to really need them outside of a recording studio, especially not someone on their first build.

The CM Case is gorgeous, and is HUGE, runs very cool and is very quiet, so you won't need to worry about cooling the parts (added an HDD fan in there, just so you have it all there) more than standard, and you'll have plenty of room to work with on your first build.

The i7 920 is still one of the best processors on the market, and with the price they're currently at it's not really worth bumping it up to a near identical i7 930.

The motherboard will support both of your 5870's no problem with no bottlenecking at all (2x Pci-e x16).

The PSU will keep you running for a very long time and is largely bulletproof, although for a first time builder you may want to go with Corsair because they are stunning for customer support and build quality, although I've found the same with CM whenever I've dealt with them.

The Headset is just an add on, after gaming a while you'll appreciate the value of having a surround sound headset for online play, especially if you like to get competitive about it :D

You have a lot of USB wired devices at the moment so the Roccat Apuri bungee will keep the mouse wire from getting tangled, the Kone is a stunning mouse and more than you will need before years of gaming.

I did put in 2x DVD drives so you can be burning a disc and installing a game disc at the same time, which can be surprisingly useful.

If you do want to get a blu-ray drive, bear in mind you will also have to buy a blu ray media player software, as the bluray video file type isn't a freely available file type and media players have to pay licences to be able to support it.

Ryan111's build seem fine, but need to add a decent CPU cooler and get some MX-3 thermal paste. Also, I'm not too sure about the Geil memory...think there has been quite a few people having issues with this brand's memory...

the cooler is the Corsair h50 which is part of the extreme bundle, its a pretty good cooler really

A bit over budget but I tried to cover all bases and as such the cost can be reduced by removing
optional extras such as Webcam, Headset, USB Net Adapter, Speakers, etc.

^^

He already has a keyboard, if he needs a wireless connection why would you get a USB one?

The Bluray player is excessive, and adds even more to the cost than the drive cost. He won't need 128Gb of SSD storage.

Guys, just because he said the budget COULD go up to £2000 doesn't mean the budget IS £2000. As your first ever gaming pc you don't want to get everything high end, it'll just mean when you want to upgrade you'll be wanting to spend more and more than is necessary. He said his budget was £1000-£1500 for the most part, and it's fairly possible he already has a separate Bluray player.

Darkwolf, you're not really going to get any better performance if you already have 2 5870's by spending an extra £500 on peripherals you don't need. Help us to help you:

Do you have an internet port near where you'd have your pc? (Wired ports are faster than wireless routers, and preferable for desktops)
Are you going to use this for anything other than gaming? If not I'd say go with an AMD setup, as the Phenom X4's at the moment are just about outperforming even the i7 offerings when it comes to gaming.

Guys, also, it's his first build, you don't want to put a whole load more stuff into the basket that he needs to mount and install than he can actually manage without breaking/

He did say he had a PS3 iirc. So i really wouldn't waste the money on a blu-ray drive for the computer.

With a budget like that you'll definatley get an i7 set up. I'd suggest spending £1000-1500 on the computer and if you have the £500 available then buy 2 monitors for a dual screen set up.

Or if you're going less than the £1500 mark for your computer you could put the left overs to 3 monitors and run eyefinity from your CF 5870's.

Based on above comments I have removed the extras and re-jigged the spec a bit.

I do think it would be a shame to not include a SSD when spending £1k+
also Cat's comment is worth taking note of due to the release of AMD's X6 cpu's soon possibly having a knock on effect on cpu prices.

To follow up on Ksanti's idea of going for Phenom X4 I would recommend :
*OVERCLOCKED* AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz @ 3.80GHz /
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard /
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Bundle £439.99
instead of the Intel 920 bundle in my spec.
