Going round in circles trying to find a monitor with for my sons PC

30" or 32", IPS, <5ms, 2560*1440 or better, gsync for 2070 card

prefer not curved, no red bezzel just a plain black

budget as low as possible but up to 700ish

I have a DELL U3011 so something that looks as good would be great

Hate to say it, but I don't think what you're after actually exists, TBH.

I should know, been looking for practically the same spec for the last month or so.:(

if only you got a vega 64 instead - same-ish performance as a 2070, but opens up a lot of freesync monitors.
eg: AOC Q3279VWFD8
1440p, IPS, 32 inch, 75hz, freesync (albeit at limited range) - at £200, a steal.

https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-q3279vwfd8/
was down to £175 new, this week just gone, with the ebay sales

I've been looking at this monitor's predecessor, the Q3279VWF (VA panel) and the reviews are good, and for that price you can't really go wrong.
Also the fact it's sold out can only be a good sign.

owning both the vwf and the vwfd8, the step up from the VA in the vwf, to the IPS panel in the vwfd8 is massive.
there is no point in considering the vwf, now that the vwfd8 is available.

Alas, I can only get the VWF. I've got a voucher to use for a high street electronics store and they don't stock the D8 :(

Would you not recommend the VWF then?
in comparison to the vwfd8, no, i couldn't, unless there is a massive price differential between the 2.
ie £200 for the vwfd8, and sub-£160 for the vwf. the (relative) lack of ghosting/better panel responsiveness, and better picture quality of the IPS panel compared to the VA panel is massive.

Are you set on 30" or 32"? Not only does that narrow down your options quite a bit, but it will give a lower pixel density at 1440p (comparable to 24" 1080p).

There are several 27" 1440p IPS g-sync gaming monitors below £700.

At this size and resolution, I liked the look of the ViewSonic XG2703-GS and the AOC AG271QG. Both are clockable to 165Hz, g-sync, IPS , quoted 4ms pixel response, and can be found for around the £550-600 mark if you look around.

But I'm not sure you can find as good a g-sync display at 30" or 32" (nor am I sure why you'd want to, tbh, unless your son sits some distance back from his monitor?).

I haven't bought the 2070 yet so I could go the vega 65 route...but...I've had thee AMD cards in my life and they have all been a disappointment...last one was 15 years ago though.

My power supply might be an issue as well...and my i5 4690k....before I know it Im buying the wee guy another whole PC...

32 is fine

Lets put it another way then...Ewans PC at the minute is

i5 4690k @ 3.5...made fundamental error and bought some crap mobo that doesn't overclock..doh
970gtx overclocked and still great at 1920*1080
DELL E2314H

Scores about 2000 in heaven bench

I was thinking 4790K CPU off ebay...but they are going for 200+ so im swaying there as well now

30"+ monitor but thats looking helluva pricey

2070 RTX or whatever you get for around 400 for mr NVidia

So maybe a grand of fairy dust on his machine

Now im seriously considering getting a good 1920*1080 monitor and leaving it at that...only problem there is the wee guy just loves the 30" dell monitor so I get stuck on the 2nd machine...lol

My 6 core 12 thread xeon 5860 @ 4.2 from 10 years ago is still working wonders as is my 980ti...scored 3500 in the heaven bench mark today...

Just looked in the box and its a 750 WATT Corsaire TX power supply...should be ok to go the dreaded AMD route...?
That monitor is out of stock...I like the look of the HP OMEN HP 32 Quad-HD but its out of stock with HP as well..350 for it

Should we go mental and go with the vega 64?
Im ok with this sort of spend, I was playing quake live against Ewan...whos 7 by the way...and it ended 47 to 50...great moment...I was trying so hard....frantic stuff!
