When I play a widescreen movie on my home cinema setup (Limit 900SE DVD player and an 42WH46 RPTV) I notice that the aspect ratio is not the full 2.40:1 that it states on the back of the DVD box. However, if I convert the DVD to an iPhone format using Handbrake I seem to get the full picture i.e. 2.40:1.
Please see the following pictures for comparison (I have used the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull as an example):
DVD playing on home cinema: here
DVD playing on PC after being converted to iPhone format: here
You can clearly see that there is more picture on the iPhone version; there seems to be parts of the picture cropped of the left and right side of the picture. How can I get the full 2.40:1 picture on my home cinema? Is this perhaps a limitation of my DVD player?
By the way, the TV type I specify in the DVD player is 16:9.
