Hi guys,

Bought this spec from OcUK 4 years ago:

  • AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.80GHz (Socket AM3)
  • Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 550W ATX2.2 Modular SLi Compliant Power Supply
  • NZXT Hush Classic Series Silent Midi-Tower Case - Black
  • Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
  • G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • Zalman CNPS7000C-CU CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

It's been great, and still runs fast for work-type stuff, but feel I need a bit of an upgrade to cope with some gaming.

Could I get advice on what needs upgraded? If I can get away with just a video card upgrade that'd be ideal. If I need to upgrade video, motherboard and CPU, can I use my existing ram and PSU?

Many thanks. One of the reasons I keep buying from OcUK is because of the great advice on here :)

What kind of games are you looking to play? Also, what budget do you have in mind?

Quite fancy giving some MMORPGs a go again. Perhaps the odd FPS and racer.

I'm not expecting £2k performance, just want to the games to run at decent-enough graphic level on 1920x1200.

Budget-wise. As little as possible to give make the games playable. It kind of depends whether a new video card is all I need, or whether I need to upgrade a whole load of things.

Location
Close to Swindon, but not Swindon
You could upgrade to a 7950 & get a 128/256gb SSD which would help also. Yes you could re-use your RAM.

Haswell is due to be released in July and the 1155 socket will not get any new CPU releases, but if you want to upgrade anyway, this would be a good start. Your PSU will be fine, the BeQuiet PSU's are great.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **NEW REVISION** with Crysis 3, Farcry3, Shogun2, Dirt Showdown & Bioshock PC Games £233.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD128BW) £109.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £83.99
Total : £620.86 (includes shipping : £10.75).

If you would be looking to go SLI/xFire THIS would be a worthy choice.
