How do you get Direct Draw to work in Windows Virtual PC?

I'm trying to use windows virtual PC to run old 2D games, but everytime I try to run them it says 'failed to initialize direct draw'.

Virtual PC should have a savage S3 functionality with 8 meg of ram, but when I look under DXdiag I have nothing for my graphics, nor in my display properties, and nothing that requires direct draw will work.

I tried installing direct x, but that doesnt work either :(.

i'd use vmware player. it has a far better virtual GPU than anything else out there. it's still not much use with new stuff but should be fine for really old games.

it's free but you do need to faff about registering on the vmware site. :p
