Is the current processor a bottleneck for your gpu or are you changing the gpu as well? If none of the above then throw a good overclock in it and try to get some money on the side for a broadwell k or skylake

If your current rig is struggling , then it might be worth the upgrade. The i5 is a good processor no doubt, but with the extra base and turbo clock the 4790k offers it's a bit of an improvement at stock. So my advice is if you can afford it go here. That's not to say the i5 would not do a good job. But the frame rate improvement is not going to be massive.
