Bought a 182 with a known airbag light type fault. I foolishly signed a sold as seen type thing in order knock a few more quid off. 2k. It has recaros, too.

Pleased with my exceptional bargaining skillz, I drove home. Tiiidy.

Driving home, STOP light and battery start flickering. Several weeks, 800 quid and a new alternator later, car is fine once again. By fine, I mean EML is on and I can't lock the car as the alarm goes off constantly. Tiiidy.

Thumbing through the service book thing, I see it was originally conceived at a Renault dealer not too far from where I live. The EML codes appeared to be cylinder #3 misfire and post lambda oxygen sensor temperature style fault.

Booked the car in with Renault who advise it needs only an injector.

Pleased with my decision to book it into Renault, I authorise and later pick the car up at my convenience. My thinking was the two faults *may* be linked and perhaps one component was the root cause.

Driving home, the EML light comes on again. Android diagnostic doodar shows the exact same two fault codes registered as live faults. Sigh. No worries, I'll just book it back in next week and I'm sure they'll sort it.

The next day the battery and STOP light are constantly illuminated, again.
Perhaps they were making friends with the EML and airbag light? :D

I do, genuinely, feel like the stupidest person on the planet for buying a 10 year old french hatch and expecting it to work. Also, for expecting garages to RCA and minimise wasting my time. Actual lols.

TLDR: Why is my 182 apparently lunching alternators? I can't afford to be spending 500~ every fortnight replacing them! :D

Are there any proper 182 specialists in South Wales?
If not, does anyone want an extremely quick 182 (for the several days it worked) sporting any number of faults I am yet to uncover?

I have no mechanical skillz or space to pleb around pretending I know how to fix it. I just want to press the go pedal and enjoy myself, occasionally :(

I dont know how legally enforceable "sold as seen" things are - but how much money could you have knocked off a 2 grand car to make it worthwhile?

So you reckon SOGA/statutory rights would still apply, even if he signed something saying "sold as seen"? Would be worth pursuing if thats the case

You can't sign away your statutory rights. If it's from a dealer then they have certain obligations under the SOGA/Consumer Rights Act which they can't get away from. However it will depend on what they've said in the advertisements and communications. If it's not from a dealer and is a private sale then your options for recourse are much more limited.

I should point out that the price of the car may well be a factor should s0ck decide to try and take this down a legal route as at £2k the expectations of a reasonable man are different to those where the car was £12k for instance.
