Only difference is the F variant doesn't come with on board graphics. In theory, this is one less thing to make heat so lower temperatures and longer boost. In practice, no difference in the real world and each as likely as the other to win the silicon lottery and run better.

brill thanks. What cooler would you recommend?

Someone else is going to have to step in on that question. I've always gone for quiet over performance (currently got a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4, last cooler I loved was a Silver Arrow) and by the specs these puppies will need to be way closer to the performance end of the scale or else they're going to spend a lot of time at the base clocks rather than boosting.

I guessing 125w TDP is way off the amount of cooling they actually need. It will be interesting to see how hot they get; a 10 core, 14nm, running at 5.0Ghz+

£400 for the i7 10700k OEM pricing never changes does it.

I picked up my 8700k for £258 when the 9xxx was out so I can wait as I generally am 2 gen behind might even wait another 2 gen or go AMD Ryzen but dont see the need at the moment to upgrade not enough performance jump. Plus another new motherboard needed.

9700k still £398 be interesting to see what the price shift is like.

I suppose I could sell my Mobo & CPU for £500 and upgrade.

..then I woke up and realised what a horrible nightmare I was having.

beeping Intel and their refusal to keep a motherboard for more than 2 years. Next upgrade for my main PC is 100% AMD now, already moved the server over.
