Ipod Nano help!!!!

I need help with my nano as i've had it since march 07 from brand new and its was working fine until one day it crashed and then when i let it run out of battery's, i plugged it in to my computer to charge it back up which was okay but my computer has completely stopped recognizing it for some reason but it still charges??
