I am quite against any form a credit unless it can end up making you more money (i.e. what Pug has done) or is interest-free.
Personally, I would still prefer to save up then pay for goods upfront.
I am currently saving for my next car and holidays and things like that.
If I was in your boots, which I kind of was then I would do what I did. I spent my £1000 budget on a car. I could have financed a car but glad I didn't.
For £900 I picked up my P plate 88k Mk2 Mondeo Ghia X. Smashing first car, I am still gutted that it was smashed up by white van numpty
If you shop around then you will find a nice 306 for under £1000.
