hope this thread does not break any rules.

I see quite a few games listed on auction site for Steam, international sellers generally who are selling Steam games cheap - my question is are these safe to purchase and does anyone have experience?

    Many thanks

Sotheby's, Christie's or do you mean eBay? If the latter, why risk it?

I have looked a couple of times at these sales but they often look dubious and sometimes for a whole new account with the game, I wouldn't risk it

    Yea I wouldn't.

Cdkeys is cheaper than buying from Steam and I've yet to have an issue.

eBay don't officially allow the sale of digital goods so I personally wouldn't risk it. Plus there are plenty of other legitimate key sellers about so just pay a bit more and get it from Humble Store, CD Keys etc. Although I personally avoid some of the grey market resellers due to the impact they have on smaller developers.

And you’ve no right to a refund if you get a code that doesn’t work.

Thanks everyone for replies - some of the deals were very enticing but your right, too risky.
