Im thinking of updating the rest of my system after purchasing the 5850, here is my current setup:

Abit IP35 Pro XE
Q6600 @ 3.7ghz
2x2GB OCZ Platinum 8000
Raidmax Sagitta II
GTX 260 896mb

was thinking of upgrading to:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58
Q9550 @ 2.83ghz
DDR3 Memory
Antec 902 Hundred

Do you think thats a good step up, i know the x58 board would be good, but would that quad be a good upgrade to and the rest?

Cheers

You will need socket 1336 i7 processor for that motherboard (the Q9550 is s775), I recommend this. As for DDR3 RAM, this stuff is great. Just make sure your PSU is up to the task.

Though, as Superewza says the current setup is great. At 3.7GHz I don't think your Q6600 will be limiting your system much.

i have a 700w ocz psu which is enough, i already ordered the 5850.

didnt realise the i7 was a different architecture, will have a rethink of some parts then and check out your links.

its not doing too bad a job, but dam loading times on games, encoding movies etc can be a bit annoying, i was hoping to push a new cpu up around 4.2ghz or thereabouts and with more L2 cache
