lap top help

the problem i have is that i have a Dell inspiron 1000 lap top over the last couple of months i have noticed, when i put a disc in, burned or not the drive sometimes dont pick up the disc.
the disc drive is a matshita ujda760
could someone please point me in the direction as to what as to what is going on and possible cure
the laptop is only 18 months old
starforce has not been installed on through this drive

Have you tried cleaning the lens on your DVD drive? That might cause intermittent failure to read. It could be the drive itself is failing but I'd try that first.

As an aside your signature is a shade too big, you are allowed 4 normal text lines or a picture with 1 small text line beneath

Check the Dell website, there might be a firmware flash for that drive that could fix the issue. Although if it's only started happening recently, it's doubtful.
