Laptop battery charging probs (BIOS?)

Help please?????

I have just bought a new battery for my dad's old 'ergo preceptor 3' laptop, the battery is identical apart from a slightly different mAH value (4400 as opposed to 3900). When I put the battery in, the laptop refuses to recognise that there is a battery in!?!?! The company I got the battery off said if I update my BIOS it should solve the problem.

Help anybody.

Is the bios likely to be the problem?

If so, how do I update it?

Are they feeding me a load of Language!?

Any help would be great!!!

Sounds like a load of bull to me. Either a battery works, or it doesn't.

Now battery charging, that's possible, but just the battery being there or not, don't think so.
