Laptop Problem

my friends got a HP G56-100 and when he tries to turn it on nothing happens, the wifi button glows orange and thats about it, just a complete black screen, doesn't even go into startup or anything, the backlight for the screen is on but nothing comes up. Ive tried all methods on this help page

but nothing helps, Anybody know what sort of problem it could be?

Does the laptop actually power on then? How about plugging into an external monitor?

the laptop does turn on, i can hear the hard disc and the fans are running, Also i've noticed that aftermarket ram has been added, when i plug it into an external nothing happens, both the monitor and the screen is black

More than likely the motherboard has died if you have tried different memory.
