Hi all,

im looking to make a new system and have been out of the loop for some time.

I understand that IvyBridge is the new intel King, are they the i5 or i7 processors (or both?)

I'm doing a lot of software virtualisation so need something with some oomph, I want to go IvyBridge (I dont think I can wait for Haswell), im just very confused about the i5 or i7.

Thanks for any advice!

Kind regards
TM

Ivybridge:

i7 3770k: 4 Cores 8 Threads, 8MB L3 Cache

i5 3570k: 4 Cores 4 Threads, 6MB L3 Cache

As above, the i7 has hyperthreading which is used in heavy duty tasks like video editing and CAD.

Ivybirdge (as sandybridge) is on the 1155 socket. It's best to get a Z77 chipset motherboard to overclock it. It overclocks very well. :)
