Just to note, though these do pretty good in benchmarks, in real world performance they are pretty much untouchable, quickest SSD out there. :)

How might these compare to a samsung? As in, would I actually notice a system impact by upgrading? At roughly 4 x cost, I'd be expecting an improvement similar to hdd -> ssd?

HDD to SSD improvement is mostly because the SSD can find data faster on the drive especially scattered data.

Even if the HDD can read one big file the same speed as the SSD because of the huge difference in reading lots of small files the SSD feels a lot better.

SSD to another SSD isn't like that at all, you need to be moving massive amounts of data about to be able to see a reduction in time taken. If doing that isn't significant for you then you don't get to see your moneys worth.

LOL, I understand how ssd tech works, i've been an early adapter since the initial intel ssd's started hitting the market years back. I'd just be a lil unkeen to splash out on an investment that wouldn't add any actual real-life improvements.
