Hi all,

For my birthday I've decided to upgrade pc; the cpu I've chosen is the Ryzen 5 3600, so I need advice on m-atx motherboard and ram (plus how much ram). Don't need gpu.

Max £150 for motherboard and same for ram.

Thanks for looking

MSI b550m mortar mobo. £160 I think

MSI b450m mortar max mobo. £99

Team 8 3600MHZ 16GB Ram £129

I have the b450m and the Ram.

The b550m is £60 more and TBH you won't notice any differences in real use, You have faster m2 support from 3.2GB a sec to 6.4GB a sec I think.... compared to the B450m.

The MSI has good VRMs.

I was going to go b450 mortar max with viper steel.

But then I saw the 3300x cpu and can't decide if I will need a 550 motherboard.

Yeah , you have the PCI-E x4 on the B550 in which you have faster m2 support from 3.2GB a sec to 6.4GB a sec .... compared to the B450m but you wouldn't notice that unless you do a lot of large files transfers often. You wouldn't notice the difference with x4 over x3.

You also have PCI-E X4 on the graphics but the fastest graphics cards aren't anywhere near saturating PCI-E x3.

Because it's £70 cheaper it's tough as the B450m is a bargain and will be able to take the 4000 Ryzens, both the mobos have very good VRMs.

I'm building something very similar. But as I needed WiFi I went for the B550 Mortar WiFi version.

Once I added to the WiFi card to the B450 mortar there was about £20 difference so thought it as worth the extra.

I've also got the same ram (16 GB) but the rgb version as couldn't find the silver version anywhere.
