This thread revival is a good invention? :p

Steam. Imitations of it don't come close. So easy to use, supports the small developers, keeps everything up to date for you, etc.

I wouldn't say mobile phones belong on the list, they are just a mash of existing technology (a phone, a radio, and pocket computer put together).

It's not even in the same league as something like the internal combustion engine, aircraft, railways, batteries.

There's things society can live without (like mobile phones, social media) and things it needs (like electricity).

For me, GPS is one of the best inventions. It's incredible that it can use satellites so far above the earth's surface to pinpoint an exact location. The devices are so small too.

Google search engine has to be up there too.
