It's funny how ready people are to class people into one sort of group on their taste of music. Yet this thread seems to contradict this, I.E Aphex Twin and Marilyn Manson, Arcade fire and Pearl Jam, Nelly Furtado and Red Hot Chillis, Bjork and The Stone Roses.

Aye, I like Heavy Metal, yet I listen to a bit of hip hop funk and older stuff :) I take music influences from my dad in the form of acoustic stuff, i.e Elvis Costello, Tom Mcrae, and other stuff like Pink Floyd, Kenny Rogers, and I listen to stuff like Chemical Brothers, Radiohead, REM, Hip-hop from my mum, and I found Heavy Metal and the like myself :) quite cool really.

I generally rip my music to my PC, then listen to all on random.

That said, if i get a new album on CD (rare these days) i sit in bed and listen through it as i find it interesting how the album flows.

But anyway, i'll put the 'off the top of my head' tracks, with albums by their side. In no particular order:

1. Muse - Hysteria [Absolution]
#Moody and just makes me feel energised#

2. Jimi Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic [Electric Ladyland]
#Just so easy to listen to over and over again#

3. Fatboy Slim - Brimful of Asha [Greatest Hits - Why Try Harder?]
#I used to love this when i was 6, so i always love listening to it - good old primary school discos eh?#

4. Dragonforce - My Spirit Will Go On [Sonic Firestorm]
#Play it with the volume loud - love it, fast and melodic - more traditional Dragonforce track.#

5. Pendulum - Bacteria Remix [I've only got the single, no album afaik]

6. Bob Dylan - Desolation Row [Highway 61 Revisited]
#11 minute Epic poem, put to perfect guitar and Dylan's captivating way of singing#

7. Bob Dylan - Hurricane [Desire]
#Story of wronged boxer, set apart from other songs by the brilliant, constant violin part#

8. Prodigy - Smack my ***** Up [Fat of the Land]
#Fast, loud and catchy. Perfect to get you going#

9. Norah Jones - Feelin' in the Same Way [Come Away With Me]
#Relaxed and she sings so well#

10. Led Zeppelin - Four Sticks [Led Zep IV AKA Runes]
#Drumming with 4 sticks, hence the name - great music#
BONUS: Moby Dick LIVE
#12 minute drum solo anyone?#

11. Queen - Headlong [Platinum Collection:cool:]
#Just something about this song i love, catchy and fun#

12. Audioslave - Show Me How to Live [Audioslave]
#Love this track, but most of Audioslave'ss are great like this one

13. Busta Rhymes - Touch It [Big Bang]
#Its all in the bass line...#

Sorry for the sad comments, i just love the music here.

This is currently, rather than all time. All time is too difficult and would take forever.

1) Crime in Stereo - Abre los Ojos (The Troubled Stateside)
2) Milloy - Less Said (More Than A Machine)
3) Marathon - Photosynthesis (Songs to Turn the Tide)
4) Strike Anywhere - Cassandratic Equation (To Live in Discontent)
5) With Honor - Elevens (This Is Our Revenge)
6) The Sainte Catherines - Ring of Fire = 4 points (Dancing for Decadence)
7) The Loved Ones - Breathe In (Keep Your Heart)
8) Smoke or Fire - California's Burning (California's Burning)
9) Samiam - Full On (You Are Freaking Me Out)
10) Rise Against - The Good Left Undone (The Sufferer and The Witness)

I could also easily make a separate rap/hiphop one, but can't be bothered. Strangely enough, I'm often playing these from the OP:

4) Michelle Branch - Everywhere (The Spirit Room)
5) Natalie Imbruglia - Torn (Left of The Middle)

:D

Anyway, a list of tracks you're too young to remember....

2/ Foo Fighters - Doll/Monkey Wrench (The Colour and the Shape)*
3/ Offspring - Nitro(Youth Energy)
4/ Supergrass - Richard III (In It For the Money)
5/ Fear of Flying - Symposium (One Day at a Time)
6/ Hide the Dead Girl - Terrorvision (Regular Urban Survivors)
7/ Kate - Ben Folds Five(Whatever and Ever...Amen)
8/ Do Your Thing - Basement Jaxx (Rooty)
9/ Concrete Schoolyard - Jurassic 5 (J5)
10/ On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Propellerheads (Decksanddrumsandrockandroll)
11/ Teardrop - Massive Attack (Mezzanine)
12/ Air - All I Need (Moon Safari)
13/ Won't Get Fooled Again(Full Length Version) - The Who (My Generation - The Very Best of The Who)

Cheeky Bonus: Everybody Needs Somebody To Love - The Blues Brothers (Blues Brothers OST)
*I always think of these as a pair, and it works better after Bliss with Doll first.

Can someone please look at my list and recommend albums from other peoples lists that may suit my tastes. My current tastes are too 'safe' and i want to expand my collection a bit more. :)

It might be useful if the more knowledgable amongst you could recommend other stuff for other people who have posted their lists. I'd do it but i'm afraid i've not even heard of half of them! :o

Flaming Lips are Kick-ass man, I have no idea who they are similar to.

get hold of an album called : Yoshimi battles the pink robots

And if you like that get "The Soft Bulletin" and "At War With The Mystics".

I absolutely love the Lips and want to see them live sometime. If I had to describe their style... I'd say it's quite quirky, at times very spacey, rock songs. a lot of production goes into their songs, but it never sounds over the top. Yoshimi Battles is one of my favourite albums - the songs are so addictive, and above all just so interesting, always bubbling with energy and detail.

May also totally not be your thing, but definitely worth a shot. :D
