Anyone here have any knowledge on this: 1988 Ford Sierra 4x4 2.8 v6. Cold start no problems at all, but has issues starting when warm/hot. I know nothing about these old cars. Does this sound costly or is it a fairly easy fix? Seller is in no rush to sell the car and if it does not sell, they will keep and get around to fixing the issue. Tia
No offence, but why invest in a 30-year-old car if you don't know anything about them? Surely it'll cost you a fortune in garage fees when other things inevitably go wrong?
True but I have a thing for old Ford's and the one I know about is in very good condition. It has a huge history file from new. Money is no problem either! I can also learn what is need and anything im not sure about or beyond me I will get an expert onto it.
Old Fords seem to be attracting the 'money no object' crowd. Some of the prices are getting eye-watering.
It's almost certainly Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, so run for the hills More seriously, there are lots of helpful guides out there for doping out issues with this setup. This one has plenty of info.

cold and old fords is common old ford prices are flying but you want something clean or project for cheap.i loved the xr 4x4s tbh
All over the place. You can still buy new parts for cars much, much older than a Ford Sierra - has the enormous classic car industry passed you by?
Ford don't have parts for sub year old cars had to wait Weeks for a gasket for a 2016 Mondeo. never had a problem getting parts for older ones though My Vauxhall dealer can get parts for a 20 yr old omega normally on a 3 day order

I knew diddly squit about this k-jetronic stuff but after a few hours reading I am slowly getting my head around it. Seems the v6 cologne in these seirra 4x4's were used in a lot of old fords, capri's etc. I understand now that the warm up regulator could be the culprit so now looking possible places to buy a new or refurbed one. All this boiling down to if I buy the car but I am actually looking forward to the challenge of repairing the niggles EDIT: My first ever car was a Mk3 Escort and that poor thing had a very dodgy carb on it lol. This was back in my youthful days. Wish I kept it now, the carb just needed a rebuild kit
It'll probably be the the MAF. Worth spraying the sensor wire with brake cleaner as they get sooted up and can't read the air flow properly.* Another but rarer cause would be a leaky injector. A hot start issue wouldn't stop me buying the car - just make sure you have a can of easy start in the boot until you fix the issue *Had a Sierra Sapphire 2.0 Ghia for years that had the Bosch k-jetronic system (in fact I still have that engine in my Westfield, albeit on throttle bodies/Megasquirt now).
