i find it very strange when people say this. if the board has 4 slots then its designed to run all 4 slots at once. if it doesnt then its faulty or ram compatibility issue.

id not be happy if i got a 4 cylinder engine and only 2 cylinders work

Sadly not all RAM will work in all 4 slots on AM4 and some Intel boards unless you check the QVL, the only time you notice these problems is when you end up buying 4 sticks you like and later realise they don't work and you check the QVL and it states only 2 sticks will work of that ram in that motherboard, so always best to check and make sure the model number and important if the ram has version numbers too are ones that will work in all 4 slots.
