I totally take your point except you're not running a standard configuration. Reset the unit and pick a stock configuration, then put in your PPPoE details and see if it doesn't work just fine. These things are generally rock solid on the basics. I've seen a few issues with WLAN signals dropping but the routing and switching are pretty much bulletproof.
