OK folks,
I've been asked to 'fix' a crappy HP Pavilion laptop as its running sloooow.

I've opened it up, it only has 1 stick of 4GB samsung Ram. That & a 1TB tosh rusty spinner.

Obvious upgrade is a SSD (There's an M.2 2280 slot so I'll clone the OS onto that, Job done)

My question is, because its samsung Ram out of an approx 3 year old laptop, prices are stupid expensive for new (If I can get it) or its refurbished.

Can I add another make of 4GB ram if the speed & timing are the same?

Thanks

For something like that you can chuck pretty much anything you like into it. Whatever RAM config goes in there, it's not going to bottleneck it :p I've had a 4 & 8GB stick in a laptop for a while that ran absolutely fine.

Thanks. I did have a Samsung laptop that had 3GB of Ram in it (It was sold to me like that brand new) for some strange reason. It turned out that there was 1GB stick & 1 2GB stick, so I ordered a 4GB stick & it worked as 6GB. I thought that would be the case here but I wanted to check.
