Stoner is a great rider, he just always spoke his mind and didn't really do the corporate robot thing. I always like the way Rossi signed for Ducati and got on what was essentially the same bike as a Stoner had the year before and was nowhere. This from 'the doctor' who apparently was a genius who could ride everything and anything. Then Stoner got on the Honda and would have won the championships with 2-3 races to go on the Honda if it wasn't for his accident.

I agree completely. While he's not the most charismatic, he was an absolute machine on the track, and frankly he deserves it if only for being the only guy to grab a Ducati by the curlies and get a championship. The guy performed miracles compared to those who went alongside him and followed him.

Looking it up they've only had 8 GP wins from other riders since 2003 when they re-entered GP racing.... Stoner has 23 for them. The 2 other world champions who have raced for Ducati have had a total of 3 third places.

his win rate was dropping year on year and the crash rate was going up, he was tired of no help with sorting the no feeling from the front n sick of just throwing in to a corner and not knowing if the tyre would hold or not, so he left.

on a different note, here is a pic from today of Marquez

Marquez would make a top speedway rider :D

The problems have always been the same at Ducati:( no support or not willing to do what the rider actually tells them...

They have all the success in WSBK and seem to have some rather stuck up noses:(, they should do a big overhaul of personnel and start fresh 100% fresh, bring in some riders from else where, create a fresh new team, and try again.

I'm felling sorry for Cal this year, was ousted from the tech 3 squad even though he was doing pretty damn well and was left with Ducati or nothing really. this could be a huge setback for him, unless he can do a Stoner and ride around the problems ;)

The question is, would Stoner have had the measure of Marquez?

I certainly think so.
cant see it myself, in stoners last year he didn't have the measure of Dani Pedrosa and last year Marquez ran all over Dani.

Would've bean great to see a Ducati fighting at the front again ;)

Marquez is good, no doubt about it, but I don't think it's fair they changed the rules to allow him ride a factory bike...

it would have made no difference, the rule change didn't allow him to ride a factory bike, the rule change allowed him to be in the works HRC team,
if the rule hadn't been changed he would have still had a factory bike but it would have had to have been in a team like bradi is in now with his factory bike and just like marco was in when he died.

Stone obviously wasn't enjoying his racing, which may have affected his speed and consistancy. Noted that last year no one got close to stoners testing times from the previous year, and this year only Marquez beat it.

Impressed with Alexis final times (4th fastest), to break the 2.00 minute mark and finish only 0.465 seconds adrift of Marquez, and faster than Dani on the Open bike. Hopefully he'll have decent race pace too, so that he doesn't drop off after a couple of laps like on the CRT bike last year whenever he qualified well.

Had my Virgin media upgraded yesterday, so now have BT Sports HD ready for the start of the season.

Stoner would have won the title without too much drama in his last year if it wasn't for that injury in the US. IMO

if n buts
and looking the stats
up until stoner missed those 3 races the points were stoner 186 and dani had 207 so in fact dani was already beating him before.
stoner even fell off trying to stay with dani in Germany that year
that years title was Lorenzo's even IF stoner hadn't missed 3 races, in every race lorrenzo finished he was 1st or 2nd

I was wondering exactly what happened here. On a performance point of view, wouldn't they push Bradley Smith? Or is there more to it than that? Really like Cal and I really don't understand why he's gone to Ducati unless he had no other option.

Smith signed a 2 year contract with Tech 3, so already had the ride for this year. Yamaha wanted Pol, and with Cal not having a contract for this year had nowhere else to go.

My understanding of it all.

I can see Smith losing his ride next year if he can't beat Pol.

tech 3 wanted cal to stay and Yamaha want cal to stay both said that in interviews.
but Yamaha couldn't promise him a full factory ride in 2015 that was the main reason for going it wasn't that he was forced out.
cal rightly or wrongly got into his head he had to have a factory bike

If you want paid a decent amount (and I heard Cal's wages more than tripled) then you simply must be on a works bike. That and you're guaranteed first dibs at any updates from the factory. There are some non-works teams that don't get any updates throughout the whole season. I'm sure Audi are watching closely and aren't used to not being competitive.

I know he wanted a factory ride ( who could blame him after last year ;) ) but I still think it was more that Smith had a 2 year deal and the prefered Pol instead of Cal pushing Cal out.

Thanks for the xplanation. Smith couldn't beat Cal, so imo he won't beat Pol.
